Cornelia James SS/19 Campaign Photoshoot

A few weeks ago, I got to shoot the SS19 campaign for the really cool glove brand Cornelia James. They are glove makers, and the company was founded in 1946. Their clients include people such as Rihanna, Madonna, Kate Middleton, the royal duchess of Cambridge and the queen Elizabeth herself. They are featured in magazines like Vogue regularly, so I was super honoured to get to capture these gloves and create this campaign, consisting of four different looks and concepts.

The first look of the day was Spring Mornings. We had planned this a few weeks in advance, and did not count on that our shoot day would be the gloomiest day of the year so far, but that’s what we woke up to, and had to work with.

The second look was “daytime formal”. As their gloves are often worn on occasions such as weddings and races, this was a big part of the shoot. We shot around their office/studio just outside Lewes, a smaller town near Brighton. A nicer office/studio space is hard to come by! It was a luxury to be surrounded by countryside and not have to worry about avoiding people in the background.

We also had access to a bed and breakfast next door to their factory, which worked great as a backdrop for the third look which was an evening look with a ball theme.

One of the challenges of this shoot was to not make it look like a gloomy day in February, as I mentioned earlier. That included a bit more post processing than I normally do, such as make the background look less wintery and make the images look warmer naturally, as the light was both cool toned and dark. Another thing I made sure to keep in mind, was to always have some kind of pose including the model’s hands in a natural way. With the beautiful dresses and nice locations, it was important to make the gloves a focus of the photos, even for the once that will be used as lifestyle images rather than product images.

The last look of the day was “Summer parties”, one of my favourites. The lace details of the gloves were so nice to shoot.

This was such a fun day that went super quickly. Cornelia James had pulled together a great team of HMUA Nadia, the two models Isabella Lilley (Sapphires model agency) and Georgie Mason-Mottram (Body London. Check out more photos from the day at Cornelia James’ website.
